Welcome
"Killarney's" is named after the small tourist town Killarney (cill airne) in the beautiful county of Kerry & has attracted more visitors than any part of Ireland. Killarney has inspired generations of poets & painters since it was founded in 1754. Behind the town are the world famous Lakes of Killarney backed by Tomes & Purple mountains. To the west rise Macgillicuddy’s Reeks, the highest mountain range in Ireland. The scenic splendors of the Killarney Valley and its environs are the principal tourist attraction. The Muckross & Kenmare estates, now state owned form the Killarney National Park, just 5 minutes from town. Horse & cart are still used today through the “Gap of Dunloe” though it is a nice walk or bicycle ride.
Legends & folk lore are abundant about the Lakes of Killarney & date back to the fifth & sixth centuries. Ross Castle (one if the most illustrated national monuments)used as a garrison as far back as 1579 was taken into state care in 1970 and following extensive structural repair & restoration, opened to the public in 1990.
While walking the narrow streets, alleyways throughout the town & visiting the many little shops, restaurants & bars, I was taken back to a simpler way of life.
The people of Killarney were genuinely friendly & when I told them of the pub they went out of their way to guide me, entertain me & share stories with me. I have brought back pictures & memories of Killarney which now hang in the pub for you to enjoy.
